"As nighfall does not come at once, neither does oppresion. In both instances, there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such a twilight that we all must be most aware of change in the air-however slight-lest we become un-witting victims of the darkness."
-Justice William O Douglas
(longest serving Supreme Court Justice (1937-1976 I believe), and native of Washington State)
I thought of this quote when speaking with a Kiowa man named Red Bird the other night at the hot springs---interesting fella. The application of the quote was woven in the discussions essence-though not specifically. Justice Douglas wrote a number of books, of which, I've read one--"Of Men And Mountains" Very Good book, a bit detailed at times(down to biscuit recipes, and all manner of plant descriptions), but thoughtful, entertaining, engrossing (for me) and certainly lends one to understand why he has a wilderness area named after him not far from the Goat Rocks.
